Although I normally enjoy his books, the newer characters were fleshed out, interesting, and fun to get to know. There were quite a few errors in syntax and grammar, but this might have just been been the Kindle version. I am interested in Oregon history and have read quite a bit about Lincoln and the U.S. Civil War. This book offered a lot to me. The setting was familiar (and includes the Oregon Territory as it is subdivided). The characters were mostly known to me....

The answer is simple: it works. The general public knows very little about how electricity works and this kind of book begs for diagrams and visual material, yet there is very little here. As we are taken through their lives what becomes painfully evident is that we can only watch, but are powerless to stop another tragedy in the making, even after war is long over. Then to go out and help others for the remainder of his life speaks to his character. I had to slow down while reading A Forever Family because I did not want the book to end.
